Musings—Here and Now

It’s hard to believe that it’s been two years since my last website post. Without dwelling on the reasons behind my extended absence, I’ll say that the pandemic certainly didn’t help my struggles. If you’ve also had a rough time lately, I sincerely hope that better times are ahead.

Recently, as my personal fog lifted, I rediscovered the world of Black Raven. I’m now currently writing Hideaway, A Black Raven Novel, the sixth novel in the series. I’m happy to report that I’m far enough along that I can tell you a little bit about the story.

A New Novel in the Works

Like the other novels in the series, Hideaway is a romantic thriller. The story begins when the heroine, Jordan, provides the FBI with information of criminal activity that implicates a notorious crime family. Once she’s in the Federal Witness Protection Program, every move she makes impacts her own safety. Her decisions could also spell disaster for two people she’d die to protect—her identical twin sister and her nephew.

Through unexpected twists and turns, Jordan’s path leads her to Hideaway Key, a barrier island in the Florida Keys that belongs to the Roberts family. Quinn Roberts, a Black Raven Agent, is forever changed when he meets Jordan. It’s love at first sight for Quinn, who never believed in such a thing. Jordan’s past, though, complicates their future. Quinn’s personal quest becomes to free Jordan from the evil force that has kept her in hiding, but first he must determine the true source of the current-day danger that threatens her.

Magical Inspiration

I’m enjoying creating a story that is set, in part, in a magical land of tropical vistas, beautiful waterways, and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. While Hideaway Key is a product of my imagination, I’ve been fortunate to take extended trips in real-life locations in the Florida Keys, which provide the inspiration for various elements in the story. The photos in this post were taken on a few of those trips.

As soon as I have a release date for Hideaway, I’ll post updates here and on Facebook. In the meantime, check out my other Black Raven novels by clicking here. If you haven’t read the series, I hope that you’ll start now!

In addition to providing writing updates from time to time, I have other blogs planned for the near future: visiting Ann Rice’s tomb has inspired me to write a New Orleans-themed cemetery post; I’ll also share what I’m reading and hope that you’ll tell me what you’re reading; and I’m finally acting on a lifelong desire to learn calligraphy. I’m not sure how I’ll do with learning the art of lettering, but I’m thinking that I’ll share my attempts with you.
